INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The IT Club has been running for five years. It was set up to help pupils of all computer abilities to try to improve their computer skills.

During the terms that the club ran, we have looked at a variety of different programs and functions of the computer including Powerpoint, internet searches, digital photography, Microsoft Word & Excel and designing posters and invitations.

Users are also made aware of the value of books and the ease with which articles can be put on the internet to ensure they don’t always believe what they read.

Many past members have continued their computer education at the Grammar School, passing their GCSE in Computer Studies.

COOKERY

Cookery Club is an action-packed, fun-filled club for “wannabe cooks” from Prep 3–7. The children enjoy the ‘hands-on’ experience of making and eating a variety of sweet and savoury dishes and developing an awareness of healthy eating.

MONKEYNASTIX

The Monkeynastix Programme is designed to give children from Preps 1 to 3 a fun and interesting introduction to kinetic movement. Research has shown by investing in positive movement and health promotion in early years, it will assist the child’s cognitive abilities and create a good attitude to healthy living.

Our fun and creative approach to movement allows children to be children again. Monkeynastix is a broad-based, holistic programme that combines creativity, music and storytelling with basic training in flexibility, balance, strength, agility, coordination and body awareness. Your child will love each energy-packed lesson.

FUN FRENCH AND SPANISH AT BEN MADIGAN

Ben Madigan is pleased to work in co-operation with LCF Clubs in order to give children the opportunity to learn French and Spanish. LCF Clubs was established in 1985. With over 5,000 centres, it is the largest provider of after-school language clubs in the U.K.

Children learn French and Spanish through structured, proven and progressive courses designed to stimulate their natural enthusiasm for language and communication. The FUN way to learn! The activities in the structured courses are stimulating and engaging. They include storytelling, drama, crafts, puppetry and many fun action songs, rhymes and games.

The club leader at Ben Madigan is Helen Crossen. Helen is a fully-qualified teacher of modern foreign languages and is registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland. Every LCF club leader is CRB checked, insured and very importantly speaks the target language fluently. Courses offered to Ben Madigan children are as follows:

French

Prep 2 & 3 - Les Tout-Petits/À La Petite École

Preps 4–7 - À L’École

Spanish

Prep 1 - Los Peques

Prep 2 & 3 - Los Peques/Curso de Principantes

Preps 4–7 - Al Colegio

All courses follow the government guidelines for primary modern foreign languages and in particular the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum for modern foreign languages.

Members of the French or Spanish Clubs at Ben Madigan are entitled to access Babelzone free of charge. Babelzone is a fun interactive website for young learners with stories, games and songs in French, Spanish and English. It features on the Curriculum online website at www.lcfclubs.com
